This submission methodology is applicable to those persons currently in Hong Kong who wish to change their status from Visitor to Business Investment, change their current residence visa category (from Legal Dependant to Business Investment, for example) or their employment category (from Employment to Business Investment). If you are a ‘walk-in’ applicant, you present yourself at counter numbers 1 and 2, take a ticket and wait to be called. If you have made an appointment via the internet, you present at counter number 3. To make an appointment via the internet, please visit the HKID website at: http://www.gov.hk/en/apps/immdextensionstaybook.htm There is a daily quota applicable to walk in applicants so there is merit in pre-booking an appointment, otherwise try to visit in the morning. Approvals are subsequently notified by mail and the applicant will be asked to present himself to finalise approval formalities. |

Applications can be submitted via mail/by hand to the Receipt & Dispatch Unit, 2/F Immigration Tower, Wanchai, Hong Kong. The applicant must not be physically in Hong Kong on the day that the application is submitted. Approvals are subsequently notified by mail and the applicant (or his authorised representative or sponsor in Hong Kong for on-forwarding to the applicant) will receive a visa sticker to be placed in the applicant’s passport prior to arrival in Hong Kong whereupon the business investment visa will commence from the date of first arrival. |
An application for a visa to take up employment in Hong Kong (a working visa) will be successful if there is no security objection and no known record of serious crime, you have a good educational background in the relevant field; and in special circumstances good technical qualifications, proven professional abilities and relevant experience will do instead. There must be a genuine job vacancy and you have to have a confirmed offer of employment. You will be employed in a job relevant to qualifications or working experience and that job offered to you cannot be readily taken up by the local workforce. The emolument that you will receive which includes income, accommodation, medical and other fringe benefits must be broadly commensurate with the prevailing market level for professionals in Hong Kong.
